It appears that Sundays are a popular day for cruises. We had 13 cars participate in this cruise and it was absolutely perfect. I believe that's a record number of cars to go on a cruise. Mark and Connie worked together to plan the route and secure a lunch venue that couldn't be beat.
We mustered (Navy talk) at our normal place. The parking lot at the corner of Washington and Greenbrier Streets. Then it was on to Glen Ferris. Also a familiar place for our group. From there we cruised up Gauley Mountain to Hawks Nest.
You know; we've done this drive many times now and I think it's just perfect for our cars. We get to listen to the ex...
Several members of the Club went on, what appears to be, a great cruise to the "Back of the Dragon" near Chilhowie VA. Richard has a friend who runs a bed and breakfast there and was a gracious host to our group.
The group consisted of Richard & Janet Stephenson (sponsors), Mark & Connie Mason, Charles & Cindra Justice, Bill Hall and Dave Neil.
I was unable to make this 3 day trip but Richard Stephenson had this to say:
The photos are attached but they don't really show how much fun the "Back of the
Dragon" road trip was. Our hosts Keith and Gail Sanders were particularly
responsible for the laughs and great breakfasts at thei...
We had our normal monthly meeting at the Golden Corral in Cross Lanes. Those in attendance were Mark & Connie Mason, Paul Mason, Richard Stephenson, Steve Ewing, Kevin Roberts, Me (Bill Michael), Ken Rubin and his guest David Aarons, Bob Wright, Dave Neil, Larry Koppelman, Charles & Cindy Justice and Jim & Rusty Patrick.
I gave a quick overview of my and Barry McCoy's trip to the Vintage Grand Prix at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, OH. We had a great time and saw lots of great racing, and a few mishaps. Nothing serious, just a couple of off course excursions and a couple of gravel trap experiences.
Our first official club sponsored event of the year was a resounding success. This is a cruise that was started the first year of the club and has been an annual event ever since. This year we had 12 cars and 17 People. That's the most participation we have ever had.
The weather was great and the cars performed almost perfectly. Bill & Lillie Hall had a slight brake problem but nothing Bill couldn't handle. It was a little bit concerning since brakes are kinda important in the mountains.
I think the road up Gauley Mountain is a great road for our cars. The curves aren't so close together that you can't get up any speed but ye...
