January Meeting Minutes

WV British Car Club

Minutes of Meeting

January 6, 2018

Golden Corral, Cross Lanes, WV

Members Present were: Bill Michael, Steve Reed, Jamie Chenoweth, George White, Earl Arentz, Dan Blackwood, David Neil, Kevin Roberts, Mark Mason, Ken Rubin, Mark Robinson, Jerry Carpenter, Nick Konnovitch, John Rife, Kevin & Linda Worthy, Charles & Cindra Justice, Larry Stonestreet, Jim Patrick and William Hall.

The meeting was called to order by President, Bill Michael at approximately 9:30AM.

Bill Michael opened the meeting by first greeting all those present, then starting a discussion on inviting representatives of various car-care product companies to attend our meeting and demonstrate their products. This is due to no interest at the present to present technical discussions as we had in the past. Mothers, Lucas, McGuire, etc. were mentioned. Bill had contacted Mother’s, and as they did not have a local rep, they instead sent a nice selection of samples for us. As a result, everyone went home with a sampling, and the larger items were given away in a drawing later in the meeting.

Jamie Chenoweth gave a treasure’s report of $2,029. currently in the club’s bank account. Also, an appeal made for each member to pay their 2018 dues of $25.

Bill Michael went through a list of upcoming events in 2018:

International Auto Show, Charleston Civic Center, weekend of January 19th. An appeal for member cars to go into our allotted space was made – we have 67 feet to fill up with our cars. They will go up on the crane January 17th.

The Gathering British Car Show in Dobson, NC April 20, 2018 at the Shelton Vineyard.

World of Wheels Car Show: 1st weekend of March 2018 in the Huntington Civic Center. O’Reilly’s Auto Parts sponsors; must prepare application and submit pictures to enter.

Greenbrier Concours de Elegance: May 4th thru 6th at the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, WV. Auction Friday, Car Club day Saturday and the car show on Sunday – car clubs can enter (1) car each on Sunday.

Cincinnati, OH British Car Show: July 8, 2018

British V8 Club event: Dayton, OH July 11 thru 15.

Dayton, OH British Car Show: August 4, 2018

Waynesboro, VA British Car Show: Oct 5 & 6, 2018, sponsored by the Shenandoah Valley British Car Club – we are going to focus on this show rather than the Doo-Wop Show in Charleston.

Jim Patrick & Bill Hall are putting together a Pocahontas County Car Cruise for later this year. It could be a one or two night adventure; possibility of a dinner at the Locust Hill BNB at Marlinton. More on this in months to come.

Bill Michael updated us on the progress of the body repairs to his Tr6. He highly recommends Greg Chandler’s Body Shop in Teays Valley, due to the job they have done on his car. Also, Jamie recommended Charleston Towing for your towing needs.

Dan Blackwood led a discussion on ordering new license plate frames that advertise our club. The frames recommended are cut to allow the license plate sticker to be seen (in contrast with the previous frames we have). They would be shiny chrome plated with the lettering etched into the metal – similar to the previous frames. He will send out an email to get orders for the new frames from the membership. The minimum order is 50, thus, we want to get as many of these reserved as possible to make this viable for the club. We previously charged $20; discussion was to lower the price to $17 or $13 each. The cost to us will be $17 each plus the shipping cost.

Bill Michael gave an update on Frank Shuler, our member battling cancer since October of 2016. He is now in Boston to receive a bone marrow transplant, and although his chances are slim, he is very upbeat and determined to lick it. He will be in all our thoughts and prayers in his recovery period, and we look forward to his return to the club events.

Frank is planning to open a new business in Huntington to be named “Frankie’s Swap Shop” where anyone can offer a car for sale for a commission of 10% limited to $2,500. There will be a private sale every Friday. Members are welcome to display their cars at no charge. He will also be setting up a “Safety City” for kids to learn traffic safety rules, a Headlight Wall, Bar-be-cue pit, and a Golf Swing Analysis.

Kevin Roberts reported his undertaking of a new venture. He is purchasing the garage building that housed Interstate Radiator in the West end of Charleston. He will be accepting general auto repair and maintenance and will be installing two lifts, will have a full kitchen and waiting room.

A special thanks was given to Charles & Cindra Justice for once again hosting our Christmas party at the law firm of Hill, Peterson, Carper, Bee and Deitzler. The party was a great success and was very well attended and enjoyed by our members.

President Michael adjourned the meeting at 10:45AM for the after meeting kibitzing session which was indoors this time due to the frigid weather.

Wm Hall, Secretary
