WVBCC Meeting Minutes

March 6, 2021

The meeting was called to order by Mark Mason, President at 10:42AM.

The meeting was held at Dan Blackwood’s garage.

Members Present:, Mark Mason, Josh Miller, Dave Chenoweth, Mike Berlin, Nathan Arnette, Barry McCoy, Charles Hypes, Eric Steuber, Charles & Cindra Justice, Bill Michael, Richard Reese, Earl Arentz, Dan Blackwood, George White. Jim Patrick, Kevin Halloran, Ken Rubin and Don Gross

Projects:

Richard Reese told us about his new TR6. The engine had a rod through the block but the head was good. It’s at Dustin’s now being checked out. His TR6 engine didn’t have good compression so he checked with Dustin and he suggested that he saturate the cylinders with Marvel Mystery Oil. He also suggested putting air pressure through the spark plug hole. After all this he has good compression and he intends to start the engine today. He has other things to do to it but it appears to be a good engine. He purchased the Ratco rear anti-sway bar and shock through the spring conversion.

Earl Arentz talked about TR6 connecting rods and balancing them. He suggested that the rods be within a gram of each other. He found a couple of NOS pistons that worked. Dan offered some used pistons as test pistons. He also spoke about the differences between TR6 engines and Triumph 2000 engines.

Dan Blackwood talked about his new powder coating system. He got the gun at Harbor Freight and got an oven at Goodwill. He’s powder coated several parts and is very pleased with the results. He discovered that if you preheat the part the powder adheres better. Richard mentioned a place on Green Valley Drive 304-543-2025. Charles Hypes mentioned Custom Coatings in Guyandotte that can do large powder coating jobs. They have a 12’ oven.

Bill Michael gave and update on his TR6 engine. The problem was a blown head gasket in 4 places. The head is at Justin’s now and just waiting for valve stem seals. The valve keepers were replaced because on of them was cracked. He used the Richard Good valve keepers.

Items of Interest:

Mark thanked Dan Blackwood for hosting and Bill Michael for filling in for Bill Hall.

Richard mentioned having John Swift come and do a tech session. Richard will check to see how much it costs. WVBCC members get in free and non members will be charged. He does tech sessions on the internet Tuesdays at 7:00PM. Richard will email the Zoom link. He is available after July but he has some obligations in VA and DC.

Dave Chenoweth has talked with Greg Chandler and they will be having a car show at Mallory Airport this year.

Several members have had their virus vaccination.

Mark registered our car show with the guy that puts out the calendar. The show is Oct. 9th.

Charlie Justice talked about upcoming cruises.

  • Amish country overnight cruise. His son lives in Mt. Vernon, OH and he volunteered to have a bar-b-que for us. It would be near Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Perhaps early summer before the weather gets too hot. He talked with a car show director and we would have a reserved space at the show.

  • George mentioned the WV brochure with motorcycle rides mentioned. Some of the members were familiar with them and thought it would be a good idea.

  • Perhaps the Carter Caves trip again.

  • Barry mentioned an alternated route from the Hawks Nest cruise that goes to Clay and then back to Charleston.

  • The show we went to when we visited Charles Hypes was mentioned.

  • Also the show in Dayton was mentioned.

  • The cruise-in’s at Shaffer’s drive in put on by the Covered Bridge Car Club on the last Friday of the month in Culloden was mentioned.

  • Kevin Halloran gave us a quick update on the rally we’ve been talking about. They have the route identified but it needs a little more work.

A discussion was held about the Triumph Stag. Bob Mullins has one and Earl Arentz has one.

Bill mentioned the coffee mugs and ink pens that are available.

Barry McCoy has 83 acres for sale on Bear Wallow Ridge in Mason county.
